So we have potentially entered our very own season of Parable of the Sower.

As I was getting close to the end of the book, I noticed that I was slowing down because I didn’t want it to end coz it is so well written but I wanted it to end because the world Octavia Butler had created was hell.

Once I was done with it, I tried to move on to the next book, Parable of the Talents, but that first diary entry was a punch in the face. Then the diary entry by Taylor Bankole (several entries later) describing the beginning of the downfall of it all felt eerily familiar.

Then in the real world, Joe Biden quit the race and Kamala Harris took on the mantel and I couldn’t quite get back to the book. There was too much to process and digest on top of dealing with the new horrors of Ms. Butler’s world.  I hadn’t even gotten to the details of how the horror of their world had been created nor had I gotten to the president (and his slogan) that everyone refers to.  But I kept rereading parts of Parable of the Sower though.

Now that we are where we are, I will return to Parable of the Talents. As I read the book, I pray we are not slowly stumbling into some catastrophic bullshit of our own creation. I pray!

So let’s prepare ourselves. Let’s take care of ourselves. Let’s take care of each other.

In the meantime, please watch Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt’s wonderful and healing post election message. Rev. McNatt is the president of Starr King School for the Ministry in Oakland, CA.

This morning in the frenzy of despair I did an amazing yoga session with Adriene Mishler (Yoga With Adriene) which was exactly what I needed.  Please check out Adriene’s yoga page for other great yoga sessions.

We will survive this!
