NPR’s Planet Money: Pirates Have Timesheets ndlela May 2, 2009 General I have been a big fan of Planet Money on NPR since it started around the time the world’s economy began to implode. There are usually whole segments that I send out to friends. I had to share this one with everyone though. It is about the economy of piracy off the Somali coast. The show doesn’t address the rarely reported upon destruction of the area fisheries by foreign commercial vessels or the dumping of toxic waste in those waters by European ships. They do break down, in typically accessible Planet Money terms, the economic model for the piracy and leave you with a sense of the players and terms of this long running saga. Enjoy . . .
