Wow! That was quick. A lot of places haven’t cleared out from Irene yet and already there is a great, well edited video on the hurricane. This short [1:18] is done by the good folks at Buffalo Picture House.
Happy Tuesday!
Happy Monday! Not such a happy Monday for the protagonist of Portal: No Escape.
Ever felt that you were stuck in a loop that kept getting back to the place you are trying to escape? Well, you probably have nothing on our unnamed protagonist. This film directed by Dan Trachtenberg has only been online for a few days and it is already causing quite a sensation.

Very Happy Friday everyone!
This is the first official video to promote the new Muppets: The Green Album
[affiliate link] which is the soundtrack to the new Muppets movie coming out in November in the US. This video has made quite the rounds this week. The videos does what it is supposed to do; it is after all OK Go and The Muppets. I couldn’t find information on who directed this and will update when I do.
Happy Thursday!
Here is a short video by director Ro Tierney shot during a snow surprise recently in Wellington, New Zealand. It is beautifully shot and Ro Tierney does a great job of capturing people’s wonder.

Today’s short film – Sumo Lake – is an animated retelling of the “Swan Lake” story . . . with sumo wrestlers. It is beautiful in its simplicity and it is equally impressive that it was done the old fashioned way: paper and pencil. At 3 minutes, director, Greg Holfeld does a great job of re-imagining the story so elegantly.

Here is a great introductory tutorial from Vimeo Video School. Now some of you might ask, “why bother learning about prime lenses when I have a zoom on my video camera?”
That is a great question. You gotta know your prime lenses though, because they help you select your shots if you are using a zoom lens. You also never know when you will be working on a gig where they request the use prime lenses. And yes, that is a rare occurrence.

Today’s short film – Mac ‘n’ Cheese – is by 4 student filmmakers – Tom Hankins, Gijs van Kooten, Guido Puijk, Roy Nieterau – from the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands. I have been working on expanding my short video viewing and animation is one of those areas I want to watch more to understand its workflow and mechanics. The four filmmakers did a great job.

Happy Friday! This award winning short film by Spy Films has been around for a couple of years now and I am still amazed every time I watch it.
This is basically an extended moment between two strangers. It is shot beautifully in black and white with amazing special effects, production design, costumes, hair/mu, . . . They just get it right all around.
The production team (huge for a short; checkout the credits) creates an intimate fleeting moment. Congratulations to director Arev Manoukian and the rest of the team for a great job.
Even the “making of” film is beautiful. [Read more...]
Had to share this video that I love by Olivier Ferland based on a Terence McKenna speech. The main thrust of it is stop consuming culture and create your own . . . now.
